Frequently Asked Questions

For Competitors

Please message us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Experiments in Grappling is a different way for grapplers of all styles to test their skills against a diverse array of competitors. Work your style or challenge yourself in other styles.  Explore the competitor's section here.

Currently, Experiments in Grappling competitions are only available in the United States. However, we are planning to expand to other countries in the future. Click here to see age groups and weight classes.

There are 3 basic match types: Grapple Out, Takedown,  and Dynamic Grapple.  Each match type has variants with different stipulations, i.e. Best of 5 Takedowns or Submission only.  Click here to read more about them and  their corresponding rulesets.  Choose whichever ones interest you.

You are in control. Sign up for a single match, a tournament, a season, or a full year.  Go to the competitors' page for more information.

Each competitor begins at the Grappling 4 Grappling level.

At this level, every competitor will compete in front of an audience of their peers.  In order to proceed to the next stage of competition, the following conditions need to be met:

Those that have signed up to compete for a full season need to win 4 matches within the 10 week season.

Tournament competitors must win a qualifying match, then a sixteen person tournament.

G4G competitors need to win six matches at any time.

The next stage of competition is District Grappling Club. Competitors will need to win 2 matches to qualify for the final stage; however, just winning the 2 matches will not guarantee their next match will take place in the final stage.  At any time after a competitor's second win, either of the two competitors that were defeated can request a rematch.  If the original winner wins the rematch, the loser cannot rematch them again until  winning twice in the final stage.  If one of the original defeated wins, both competitors will proceed to the final stage, regardless if the original defeated has 2 victories.

The final stage of the season is AAA Grappling   These events are themed events and offer the first opportunity for monetary competition.  During their qualifying season, competitors can sign up for as many as 4 matches a week, if they are willing to travel.

Factors that affect compensation include crowd size, number of wins, points scored during matches,  and victory condition.

At the end of the season, whichever level the competitor last competed at is where they will begin their next season once they renew their membership.

All  Tournament and Full Season competitors will automatically qualify for 3 matches with AAA Grappling for the proceeding season upon membership renewal. G4G competitors will have to pay an additional $20 with their membership renewal.  Pay will be determined by the competition level reached in the previous season.

The top level membership is $175 for a full season pass. This guarantees 1 match a week for the duration of the season.

The next level is $125 for a tournament pass.  This guarantees 3 tournament opportunities, however only the first two attempts can result in progression to the next stage.

The third level is G4G pass. This guarantees eight matches at the G4G level.

Once a competitor has qualified to compete at the AAA Grappling level, they will receive compensation.

However, at any time, competitors are allowed to be sponsored by or receive other financial incentives from outside parties as long as they are approved by Experiments in Grappling.  Failure to disclose these outside relationships will result in being suspended from future competition.

Additionally, competitors may earn royalties from merchandise, media, and sponsorship revenue in any season where they compete at least three times.

At the end of your first season, your win and point totals will determine your pay rate for the following season you in which you participate.

Make sure you sign up for  updates of when and where the closest competition is to you.
